The Oxford Comma

An ambiguous but benign sentence from a friend reminded me about the Oxford Comma. You can write a list as "A, B, and C" or as "A, B and C." Most of the time it doesn't matter because the intent is clear. Sometimes even when the intent is clear leaving out the comma can be awkward. viz.
I love my parents, Queen Elizabeth, and God.doesn't have the ambiguity of
I love my parents, Queen Elizabeth and God.I like the extra comma even when it isn't necessary to make the intent clear. Why? because it never hurts. This can get complicated because in the US the second comma is actually bad form in marketing communications. My last company had both a technology & marketing focus so quibbling over written copy happened a lot. Thankfully it is always easy to rearrange things to eliminate the list or at least the awkwardness of some lists.
