"If there was a better, more effective, or in fact any other way of visiting some penalty befitting their participation upon the little Eichmanns inhabiting the sterile sanctuary of the twin towers, I'd really be interested in hearing about it."CU's interim chancellor, Phil DiStefano, said ""While I personally find his views offensive, I also must support his right as an American citizen to hold and express his views, no matter how repugnant, as guaranteed by the First Amendment."
Sure, I believe that DiStefano isn't campaigning Congress to forbid Churchill from speaking. But DiStefano doesn't need to pay Churchill to do it, either.
Higher education in Colorado is complaining about budget problems. I'm thinking there's some CU money that could go to CSU or UNC without affecting the curriculum at CU too poorly. Or, maybe they're paying to have a court jester. Hmm...
Back in your student dormitory days, didn't someone set your Bush-Quayle door poster on fire? Same old same old.
Update (Feb 01): He has since stepped down under a hail of criticism. A story on FNC says Churchill has gotten "multiple death threats" (it also says "hundreds of death threats" - the writing is poor) about his upcoming appearence at Hamilton College. Even if he is one of the biggest blow hards in our hemispehere I find that alarming. Well, not quite as alarming as "He's also gotten hundreds of supportive e-mails and said that some of those in his corner are soldiers on the front lines of the war in Iraq." (it sounds like Churchill himself is the source for this information, but the writing is again unclear). When you call 300 million people Nazis I would expect the death threats from the people you called Nazis to outnumber the people who say you are right to call them Nazis. I didn't poll everyone, that's just a hunch.
