I have unbound rage and no surprise at today's events. Everyone knows (or should know) what these barbarians are capable of. They hate me and I hate them but this is not a vicious cycle as some would have you believe. They hate me because in their worldview I should be a slave; they are pissy because I'm not. I hate them because I don't want to be a slave. They want me dead because I refuse to submit. I want them dead because I refuse to submit. If there is a "cycle" here it can only be broken in two ways. One, billions submit and let a minority rule the world. Two, we just kill enough of that minority that the rest reconsider their position (given their motivation, that is potentially all of them). I have no problem with that.

The West, the war in Iraq, and the counter terrorism effort can only create these guys on the margin. None of these things makes a bomber out of whole cloth, they can only take an indoctrinated, inactive Whahabi and change him into an active one. Surrendering would at best only convince a couple of these guys to stay home while at the same time encouraging many, many more.

I wish the rules on broadcast indecency were different, because I'd like to hear this from Londoners and the leaders at the G8:

We're not going to give in. Why? Because fuck em, that's why.
