The University of Tennesse is dropping
Davy Crocket from their apparel. I'm sensative to this particular kind of progress, more likely to be standing athwart history yelling Stop. My own Alma Mater tried to replace the team name of "The Engineers" with something a bit sexier. They were screamed down by the alumns again and again for decades. Then the crafty basards got an idea, they would just change the mascot and not the team name and The Mountain Hawk was born. Nevermind that there is no such animal, it tested really well.
After the mascot had been changed they got announcers and papers to start referring to the "Lehigh Mountainhawks" - not the "Lehigh Engineers - who's mascot is a mountain hawk." In less than two years the deed was done. I don't even know if they have since bothered going back and officially changed the team name, why bother? Bastards.
