Tonight was opening night and so far, so good. I had the Risotto with seafood ($15). "Seafood" is not a euphemism for dyed monkfish; this has clams, mussels, calamari, lobster, scallops, and shrimp. Mine also came with a crab cake on the side though I don't know if this is because it is opening night or because I'm holding pescatoreseafood.com hostage[1].
The menu is entirely seafood (outside of salad and french fries) and dishes are priced between $10 and $16. I'll be sure to post about other dishes in the near and frequent future. When I say the restaurant is right across the street I mean right across the street. I could hit it with a thrown newspaper from my front porch. This is a welcome option since the Urban Gourmet burned down. Urban might be back in business soon or it might not. There was a "reopening soon" sign in the window six months ago. Contractors are occasionally heard futzing around and a "now hiring" sign is in the window.
Errata: I don't think they deliver but I didn't ask. The Mom of the Mom & Pop is in charge of the kitchen. She also seems to be the more business minded of the two, but that might just be because she is more chatty[2]. With two businesses to run the twenty-something daughters have been pressed back into service. This lightens my day a bit and no doubt furrows Luigi's brow. Between take out seafood and the liquor store the family now fills a large part of my daily needs. If they start selling coffee, milk, and meat (the hooved kind) I could spend years without walking a block (err: and a bowling alley and a golf course).
[1] My demands for pescatoreseafood.com are one case of beer, and .. that's it. The mother had no idea what I was talking about (but did it very politely) and one of the daughters had to explain what the "domain name" thing meant. Because they hadn't already claimed it I assumed they hadn't thought of it. So I figured I'd reserve it before someone more extortionary did.
[2] Ask people "How's Business?" and they will tell you. With cabbies this can be a double edged sword - I recently had a cabbie relate his theory that the strippers holding up cabs are in fact transvestites - but with small businesses you'll often learn about today's small obstacle that never would have occurred to an outsider.
[3] Crowley's liquors hasn't been owned by a Crowley in known memory. The last owner was Bob non-Crowley and before that it was run by his non-Crowley father. There isn't a good reason to change the name so no one does.
