Kristy soared with 143, 171, 143 for a 152 average (+25 over her league). Mike had some trouble during warm ups which followed him into league for 175, 155, 122 and 150 average (-9 over league). I had some trouble through warm ups and managed to only pull one strike in my first two games for 110 and 122 but found my groove in the third and threw five strikes (and some spares) for a 179. I averaged 137 on the night (+17 over my piss poor average).
In an ideal world we would have won by 1 pin in every game so our averages won't go up. In the real world even crushing wins won't effect our averages much this late in the season. They will make our paper averages closer to our real averages for next season but I can live with that.
The top team has 65.5 win points and we have 57. There are three weeks left so we can definitely close that gap. An oddity of bowling lingo is that we are "17 points out" instead of "8.5 point out." The doubling comes from adding the difference in wins to the difference in losses. I find this odd because you obviously lose the points you don't win. To calculate the "correct" number you have to do a little extra math.
The regular season starts soon. The big deal "main" league is on Sundays and it is a four person, nine month league with 80% handicap. We'll almost certainly join but hopefully we can put together a bigger team with a couple regular substitutes so folks can be absent without feeling like they let the team down (the last two weeks I drove 310 miles from PA to arrive just in time for league). Many of the three person teams in our current league are actually four or five person teams. They plan and trade off weeks just like you would for five people owning three season tickets.
Errata: I am a fan of the dick move called the "walk away strike." This is where you throw the ball and immediately turn around and boast before the ball even leaves the oil. It is such a dick move that simply turning around and smiling counts as boasting. Bowling isn't science so even a perfect throw has a chance of leaving one pin standing so you need to be super certain and really cocky (hence "dick move"). I do one or two of these a week when I'm super certain I'm right (so far, I am). The "walk away spare" isn't considered a dick move because it is easy to see with %99.99 certainty that the ball will hit the lone remaining pin.
NB, last night I wrote down our actual scores on a bar napkin so this report is more accurate than most. Kristy is our recording secretary and carries a notebook with all our games ever (well, the ones she is there for) including pre and post league games and casual nights. A wealth of data I plan to plumb soonish.
