What about this? Reports have been trickling out of the Congo of sexual abuses perpertrated by the UN peacekeepers there. The charges are extreme(rape, pedophilia, etc...) and yet they go largely unreported by the mainstream media. And the abuses have reportedly been occurring for years.
Or this(video here)? French troops fired into a crowd in the Ivory Coast, the latest eruption in violence France and its former colony.
Where's the outrage, the condemnation, the worldwide quest for answers? Oh, right, it's not imperialist, fascist Americans in the wrong this time so... no need to get worked up.
The prostitution scandal is over a year old. It may be getting new legs because it is ongoing despite a UN "investigation" but I suspect mainly because there are now pictures and video. Abu Grahib was in the news months before it was "news." Pictures made all the difference.
As for the shooting, I watched both clips and I am deeply suspicious. As much as I like to think the worst of the French I'm with Captain Ed on this one. The video doesn't show anyone shooting anyone, we just hear shots as the camera blurs around. There is a graphic picture of an exploded head and another that might be a blown off hand. Mostly there are lots of clips of bloodless (and topless) people lying motionless on the ground. I have never seen a massacre (duh) but I have seen a few car accidents and I would expect blood everywhere. It may have indeed been a massacre but this heavily edited video isn't by itself evidence of one.
Instapundit has an update on the French troops firing into the crowd. (it seems they did)
