Fireworks, public and private, have been going off all week here in Somerville, Mass. I just heard a raft of bottle rockets go off and as the last one ended a police siren matched it. I hope they stick the guy with a noise complaint, at worst. Fireworks laws, like most laws in this Commonwealth, are retarded. If there was any real danger my block would have already burned down five times over.
And as I was writing this someone else set off a string of saturn rockets. To distract the law, no doubt. And don't blame New Hampshire - bottle rockets aren't legal there. I'm thinking kids in Somerville know how to take the subway to Chinatown. The MBTA was even helpful enough to name the stop.
