Winter Bowling: Sport League

We managed to take 11/21 points despite the fact that both my teammates were out this week; which means I was bowling with a -20 pin per game handicap. I didn't do well as much as the other team did badly. 149, 134, 133 (+3/game over my 135 average). My warm-up games were 170, 168 on a house pattern. The tougher PBA sport pattern knocked off some of those extra pins and league pace knocked off the rest - it is easier to tweak your game bowling solo because your next throw is always NOW.

To put it differently I averaged two open frames per game during warmups and four during league. Open frames are exponentially painful so that was a bit of Ouch.

One of the 40-something guys brought his girlfriend to the game. She had never seen a bowling league before and immediately went into junior anthropologist mode. Fist bumps? hand-skinning? golf-clapping? She enjoyed guessing at and interpreting all of it (quick summary - she read too much into it - people just do whatever). Her skull bulged slightly when I named the members of our league by profession: carpenter, English professor, auto-mechanic, astrophysics PhD, college undergrad (undecided), unemployed, etc. That was plenty of unexpected information for her so I didn't even mention that a couple members of our league are gay - or that there is an all gay league (it isn't as competitive, the tiny sport league is).
