Obama in his Own Words

In the Kerry-Bush election my friends tried to believe that when Kerry said two things (which he did about everything) he actually meant the thing they believed in. When Bush said something they took him at his word because he only said one thing. Oddly enough this describes both the Kerry and Bush voters. The Kerry voters took Bush at his word and interpreted Kerry in the kindest way. The Bush voters took Bush at his word (frequently unfavorably) and Kerry in the un-kindest way.

This election has a similar dynamic but instead of saying two things (like Kerry) Obama is saying nothing. So conservatives can be forgiven for using what Obama was saying right before he was running for president as evidence of what he might do if he wins office.

Here is Obama speaking in a mega-church just before his presidential run. It is a mix of bible and politics that would be completely unacceptable if it were done by Bush. This is a half an hour of unedited footage (via).

January 20, 2008. Obama starts with scripture and then moves on to a mix of scripture and politics. He takes both as compelling reasons for his policy. This should be worrying for both Christians and seculars because he takes any perceived injustice as a reason to do shit and doesn't mention once any means he wouldn't allow to temper any perceived injustice.

His calls for Hope and Unity are completely unbridled. Unity will cost you but the results will be good and just. Anyone who stands in the way of Unity also stands in the path of Justice.

Folks, this is very scary shit. This is not a moment or sentence taken out of context. This is a half an hour of power that rhymes with all the radical precepts and friends that Obama has been accused of having but haven't been covered by the press. It happened this year. A tiger can't change his stripes.
