Guido hired by Google
Dec 21 2005, 12:17 EST
That Guido van Rossum, BDFL of python was hired by google was recently asserted by "fuzzyman" on comp.lang.python and quickly confirmed by Alex Martelli in this thread.

While this has no impact on my day-to-day life (and probably no discernable impact on python-the-language) it may have some spill overs. It has been increasingly easy to find people with python experience. That Google uses python extensively internally has given the language some buzz. If the buzz spills outside of the engineering community (big if) my company could even use "python inside" in our pitches (again, a big if).

Which reminds me, I still need to figure out how much to spend sponsoring PyCon and what kind of marketing materials (bag inserts?) to make.
